ANTH-P305 underwater archaeology

This course is designed to provide an overview of the field of Underwater Archaeology and the study of underwater cultural heritage in North America. Topics include theoretical background, ethics, methodologies used to analyze submerged archaeological material, conservation, and case studies from the field. This course will explore various uses of maritime resources throughout space and time. By the end of the course, students will understand how Underwater Archaeology developed historically and analyze how political, economic, and cultural institutions today and throughout time influence ethics, interpretation, and preservation in Underwater Archaeology.
